  1. This article contains a lot of vocabulary and useful phrases though it took me a while to look up and understand the whole article and after that writing down new things in my notebook. I think it’s time to leave NHK News Easy and moving up here.

    1. You are working hard. I am sure your diligence will pay off. At the same time, I will try to make your study as easy as possible. Good luck!

  2. This is my all time favorite authentic Japanese learning source. It is concise and informative enough to suit an independent learner like myself well.

    Thank you very much.

  3. Great article as always. Thanks Sakura sensei. Oh yes, I’m a little bit confused about the expression the hungry monkey (with empty stomach). Why say お腹を空かせた猿 instead of お腹が空いた。Thanks!

    1. That’s a tough question. The verb is in the causative form here to give it a nuance of adversity or to show that the monkey is put in an uncomfortable situation.

  4. Thank you for all your hard work, I found it really helpful. I have tried to practice my listening with J-Dramas but the actors speak so fast!

So far I think this post and the one about 紅葉の天ぷら are my favourites.

The English equivalent I think is perhaps “Like cats and dogs”?
