GRAMMAR NOTES: Demonstrative Pronouns
KORE  means “this" or "this one”.
SORE  means “that" or "that one”.
Use this if the object is close to the listener.
Sore wa hon desu. That is a book.
ARE  means “that over there" or “that one over there”.
Are wa hon desu. That over there is a book.
Use this if the object is far from you and the listener.

Making questions in Japanese is easy.Simply add ka to the end of a sentence and it becomes a question. The word order does not change.

Using Nan (What)
Note that Nan does not need to go at the beginning of the sentence. 
Q: Kore wa nan desu ka? (What is this?)A: Sore wa hon desu.  (That’s a book.)
