It’s great to be part of the community, Sakura! In this excerpt: 自力でロッジまで登らないといけません, what does the ‘と’ indicate? I’m used to seeing ては/ではいけません, but I’ve never seen the といけません form.

    1. しないといけない is a form meaning “have to do” or “must do”. とmeans ‘when’ or ‘if’ in this case. 登らないといけないwould be “have to climb”. Literally, I guess it would be something like: “If you don’t climb, it cannot go.” I hope that answers your question.
